Orion Farming Fuel Q & A 15th July 2026

Q: What has happened in the fuel market this week?
A: Oil prices have risen sharply again following renewed hostilities between the US and Iran and further threats to oil and fuel shipping routes in the Middle East.
Brent crude was trading at around $85.42 per barrel this morning, compared with approximately $69.56 on 6 July. That is an increase of more than 20% in just over a week.

Q: Why has the market moved so quickly?
A: The main concern is disruption to exports through the Strait of Hormuz and potentially other important shipping routes.
Gulf oil exports have reportedly fallen below half their pre-conflict level during the past week. The market is also reacting to renewed threats against shipping, oil facilities and energy infrastructure.
This does not necessarily mean supplies will stop, but markets tend to price in the risk before any physical shortage occurs

Q:What should farmers watch over the next few days?
A:The main factors are:
  • Developments in the Middle East and the security of major shipping routes
  • Whether Gulf oil exports recover or fall further
  • Diesel refinery margins and the availability of refined fuel
  • Sterling’s performance against the US dollar
  • Local supplier stocks, delivery times and quote validity
In a rapidly moving market, quotes may change during the day and may only remain valid for a short period.
