UK Fuel Market Update – 25th August 2026
Q: Does cheaper crude mean red-diesel prices should fall immediately?
A: Not necessarily. Crude oil is only part of the delivered price. Global supplies of refined products, including diesel, remain tight and refining margins are still unusually high. This means diesel and gas-oil prices may remain stubborn even when Brent falls. Any reduction in farm-fuel quotations could therefore be smaller or slower than the movement in crude oil. Q: Is sterling helping UK buyers?
A: Yes, to a degree. Sterling is trading at approximately $1.36, compared with around $1.35 last week. Because oil and refined fuels are traded in US dollars, a stronger pound helps reduce the cost for UK importers. It is providing some welcome protection, although it cannot fully offset tight diesel supplies or renewed geopolitical disruption. Reuters sterling update
