Q: What has happened in the fuel market this week?
A: Oil prices have eased again this week, with Brent crude sitting around the low $70s per barrel. The market has been calmer as concerns over Middle East supply disruption have reduced, although there is still plenty of geopolitical uncertainty in the background.
Q: Does that mean red diesel prices will fall straight away?
A: The latest published UK farming data shows red diesel prices moved lower in May compared with April, but they remain significantly higher than the same time last year. So, while the direction has improved, fuel is still a major pressure point for farm businesses.
Q: What should farmers be watching?
A: The key points are Brent crude direction, sterling against the dollar, OPEC+ production decisions, and any renewed disruption to shipping routes or refinery supply. With harvest and summer fieldwork in mind, availability matters as much as headline price.
