Orion Farming Fuel Q & A 17 June 2026
Q: What is happening with farm fuel this week?
A: The fuel market has eased slightly this week, helped by softer crude oil prices and reduced pressure around global supply. That said, farm fuel costs are still well above where many businesses would like them to be, so this is not a moment to take your eye off the ball.
Q: Has anything changed for red diesel?
A: Yes. From 15 June 2026, the rebated duty rate on marked gas oil, commonly known as red diesel, has been reduced to 6.48p per litre until the end of the year. This is welcome news for eligible agricultural users, but it does not mean every delivered price will drop overnight.
Q: Why might the price at farm level not fall straight away?
A: Supplier stock, delivery area, order volume, transport costs, refinery margins and timing all make a difference. In short, the market may move quickly on paper, but the lorry coming down the lane can take a little longer to reflect it.
Q: What should farmers be watching over the next week?
A: Keep an eye on crude oil movements, red diesel quotes, supplier lead times and any further global supply news. The market has settled compared with recent weeks, but volatility has not packed its bags and gone on holiday.
