Orion Farming Fuel Q & A 25 June 2026
Q: What is happening in the fuel market this week?
A: Oil prices have eased this week, helped by improved tanker movement through the Strait of Hormuz and a calmer tone around global supply. That is welcome news after a very unsettled few months, but the market is still sensitive to global events.
Q: Is red diesel coming down?
A: The latest published UK farming data shows red diesel prices moved lower in May compared with April, but they remain significantly higher than the same time last year. So, while the direction has improved, fuel is still a major pressure point for farm businesses.
Q: What about the fuel duty change?
A: From 15 June 2026, the rebated rate for gas oil, including red diesel, has been reduced until the end of December. This should offer some support, but it will not remove the wider impact of crude oil prices, exchange rates, delivery costs and demand.
Q: What is the outlook?
A: The market feels steadier than it did earlier in the year, but it is not settled. Any renewed disruption to shipping, crude supply or currency movement could feed through quickly.
