UK Fuel Market Update – 14th August 2026
Q: What has happened to oil prices this week?
A: Oil prices have risen, with Brent crude trading at around $88 per barrel on 14 August. Renewed tension involving Iran and concerns about disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have pushed additional risk into the market. Prices remain highly sensitive to political developments and can move quickly in either direction.
Q: How is this affecting UK fuel prices?
A: Higher crude prices and continuing pressure on international supplies are supporting UK wholesale diesel and gas oil prices. The market remains volatile, so quoted prices may change within a relatively short period. Although weaker global demand could limit further increases later in the year, geopolitical risk is currently keeping prices firm.
Q: Is harvest demand still affecting gas oil availability?
A: Yes. This year’s exceptionally early harvest brought agricultural demand forward, placing considerable pressure on gas oil suppliers. Harvest is now progressing rapidly in many regions, but fuel demand remains strong for combining, grain drying, cultivations and other post-harvest work. Availability may vary locally, and additional delivery time should be allowed wherever possible.
