Orion Farming Fuel Q & A
Farming Fuel Q&A Update – 27 May 2026
Q: What is happening with Brent crude this week?
A: Brent crude has eased back, falling to around $96.47 per barrel on Wednesday morning, down just over 3% on the day. The market is reacting to signs of progress in US-Iran talks, although tensions around the Strait of Hormuz are still keeping prices volatile.
Q: What is still keeping pressure on fuel markets?
A: The big issue remains global supply uncertainty. The IEA says refinery throughput is expected to fall sharply in Q2 2026, while middle distillate markets, which include diesel-type fuels, remain tight. That means crude may dip, but finished fuel prices can remain stubborn.
Q: What should UK farmers watch most closely now?
A: Keep an eye on Brent staying below or moving back above $100 per barrel, progress around the Strait of Hormuz, sterling-dollar exchange rates, and diesel availability. If peace talks continue to progress, there may be some easing. If disruption returns, prices could move quickly again. The EIA still expects Brent to average around $106 per barrel in May and June before easing later in the year, assuming flows gradually resume.
