Orion Farming Group Weekly Straights Update: 24th September 2026
Updated: Sep 25

The figures in the charts are an indication only and reflect levels traded on Wednesday.
Hipro Soya
Prices rallied through most of last week before pushing higher again on Monday.
Strong demand for US soya continues and expectations that US soymeal exports will be up 23%, a record high.
Optimism is building for removal of reciprocal tariffs between the US and China.
Whilst China has already committed to buying US beans there could be scope for further ag commodities, which would indirectly support soybean prices.
Weather in the US has been mixed, raising concerns around delays going forward.
US harvest is at 12% complete, which remains ahead of the 5 year average.
Brazil continue to get started on planting in between rainy intervals.
El Nino is likely to provide some weather risks for the coming season, with northern Brazil likely to be dry and southern Brazil/Argentina likely to stay wetter.
Rapemeal
Prices continued to climb, tracking soya markets as well as increased demand across Europe as buyers look to get protein cover for 2027, due to uncertainty around soya and EUDR.
There is EUDR compliant soya available in the EU, but there is expectation that the available amount would not satisfy the current soya usage, so demand is going to move across to other protein sources.
Rhine river levels are back to the summer lows, so shipments are underloaded.
This looks unlikely to recover quickly, so expect nearby availability will stay tight for the foreseeable future.
Erith continues to sell meal to Europe instead of selling spot in the UK and shippers bringing in imported rapemeal struggle to get additional shipments.
These situation on shipping in to and out of the EU, means collections are booked up a couple of weeks ahead, so requirements need to be planned in advance to ensure supply.
Soya hulls
Availability continues to tighten nearby with minimal offers until November.
Prices are likely to stay supported as demand is anticipated to stay strong due to the lack of sugarbeet this season.
Distillers
Prices moved higher again as US prices continued to climb.
Domestic demand in the US is increasing as it offers better value on cost per unit of protein vs soymeal, reducing the amount available for export.
No news on support for Ensus running beyond October.
Sugarbeet
Plenty of rumours circulating around pricing and volumes but nothing actually confirmed.
Imported offers are non-existent.
Wheat/Barley
Prices eased back a little mainly due to news that Turkey was proposing a deal for Russia and Ukraine to end strikes in the Black Sea in order to resume grain exports.
Similar to the 2022 grain corridor that Turkey and the UN brokered.
Nothing further has been released about this other than Turkey submitting proposals to both sides.
In order for grain prices to move down, something concrete needs to come out of this.
Alternatively, if attacks resume on the Black Sea infrastructure or ships, prices are expected to rally.
And finally, totally irrelevant but quite interesting facts of the week…….
The words ‘ace, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, jack, queen, king contain 52 letters and moving each letter of the word ‘yes’ 16 places further up the alphabet produces the word ‘oui’.
