Orion Farming Fuel Q & A
Q:Where is Brent crude sitting this week?
A: Brent has dropped back sharply and was reported at around $101.70 per barrel on 6 May, after falling on reports that the US and Iran may be moving closer to a framework peace deal.
Q: What is driving the fuel market at the moment?
A: The big driver is still the Middle East situation, especially whether the Strait of Hormuz can return to normal traffic. The market has eased because traders see a possible path towards de-escalation, but the situation is still fragile rather than fully resolved.
Q: How is that likely to affect farming fuel costs?
A: This should take some immediate heat out of fuel markets compared with the recent spikes, but costs are still likely to remain volatile rather than settled. A lower Brent price is helpful, though any setback in the peace process could quickly push crude and diesel values back up.
Q: What should UK farmers keep the closest eye on now?
A: Watch for two things: whether any peace framework is actually agreed in the next few days, and whether movement through Hormuz improves in practice. If both happen, fuel markets should calm further. If not, the market could turn twitchy again very quickly.
