Orion Farming Fuel Q & A
Q:What is Brent crude doing this week?
A: Brent is trading at about $96/barrel this week after rising 1.4% on 15 April. That is well below the extreme March spike, but still elevated versus pre-crisis levels, so the oil market remains nervous rather than settled.
Q: What is affecting fuel supply right now?
A: he main issue is still restricted movement through the Strait of Hormuz, with shipping constrained even after ceasefire talk. That matters because around one-fifth of global oil transit normally passes through that route, so any delay or disruption keeps supply tight.
Q: What does that mean for farming fuel costs?
A: It means farm fuel costs are likely to stay firm and volatile. Brent has come off the highs, but supply risk is still priced in, and disruption to crude movements continues to support diesel and gasoil values rather than letting them fall back cleanly.
Q: What should UK farmers watch most closely?
A: Watch three things: whether Hormuz traffic improves, whether ceasefire talks actually hold, and whether crude stays below $100/barrel. If flows improve, pressure should ease. If disruption drags on, fuel markets could turn jumpy again very quickly.
